Job Title: Primary Forest School/ PE Instructor
Location: New Barn School, Newbury
Salary: £24,000 - £30,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm including 1x 5pm finish
Contract: Permanent, Term Time only

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Primary Forest School/ PE Instructor to join our close-knit team at New Barn School located in Newbury.
Job Purpose:
In particular the Outdoor Learning & Forest School instructor is expected to:
Plan, prepare and deliver purposeful and productive activities for pupils.
Be prepared to innovate and devise imaginatively varied ways of teaching the Forest school experience to pupils.
Encourage pupils and show enthusiasm for their subject indoors and outside.
Select and use a range of different resources and teaching styles, appropriate to the Outdoor Learning experience.
Promote positive management of behaviour in the Outdoor environment, establish routines and boundaries to ensure the safety and good behaviour of the pupils.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Work under the guidance of the Outdoor Learning Lead using experience and expertise in Forest School and Learning in the Outdoor Environment, in an agreed system of supervision to;
Work with the Outdoor Learning Lead and senior staff in the observation, assessment and planning cycle and to manage and prepare resources.
Engage with and support pupil’s learning and generally support pupils with set activities, independent problem solving and creative play.
Supervise pupils at all times and this may include lunchtimes as required.
To manage support staff and volunteers effectively, ensuring they embrace the ethos of Outdoor Learning.
To ensure the health and safety of all participants, including writing and checking risk assessments for the sites, tools and activities used.
To regularly check and maintain tools and other equipment.
To keep records as appropriate of emergency contact details for participants, permission forms and achievement of pupils.
To adhere to all relevant policies and procedures of the individual schools and settings.
To engage in continuous professional development.

New Barn School offers a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum to boys and girls, aged 6–19 years who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health complexities.
New Barn School takes full advantage of its beautiful settings and fosters a love for using the outdoor curriculum including forest school, farm experiences and horse riding.
