Salary: Negotiable dependent on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday
Contract: Fixed Term, Term Time only (until 17th April 2026)
Start Date: 22nd April 2025
An excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher or senior leader with a passion for Inclusion to act up as SENCo - Maternity Cover. The successful applicant will be a highly organised individual who is able to effectively communicate with all stakeholders.
The SENCO will have overall responsibility for the strategic development of the school’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) policy, including oversight of the day-to-day operation of that policy with the aim of raising all students’ attainment and achievement.
In addition to agreed responsibilities as a member of the teaching staff and any reasonable direction from the Headteacher or member of the Senior Leadership Team the SENCO will:
Ensure the SEN register is up to date and monitored
Create appropriate Personalised Learning Intentions to support EHCP outcomes
Regularly monitor and, review Personalised Learning Intentions alongside the clinical team and Curriculum Lead
Coordinate and manage interventions for individuals or small groups alongside the Pastoral Support Team and Clinical Team
Ensure appropriate Access Arrangements are in place for examination purposes, and collate supporting evidence to facilitate these
Essential Criteria
QTS – graduate or teachers’ certificate
National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators or commitment to complete the training
Evidence of continuing and recent further professional development and qualifications relevant to the post
Experience of working with Autism and challenging behaviours

About the school
The Tower School is an independent special day school for pupils ages 11 – 18 years who have a primary diagnosis of Autism. Our dedicated team work together to ensure successful outcomes for pupils who will often arrive at the school with a troubled view of education and life.
This opportunity is based in Epping, Essex, CM16 4BA and is located on Epping High Road within easy access of J26 of the M25 and Junction 5 of the M11. Epping is a lovely market town in Essex and just 17 miles (30km) from the centre of London. It is surrounded by Epping Forest and the River Roding and River Lea valleys. The school is just a 10-minute walk from Epping station on the London Undergrounds central line which will have you in London’s West End in under 50 minutes.
