Full Job Description
Primary Teacher
This is a great opportunity to join our Closeburn School part of Options Autism as a Primary Teacher
Through your knowledge and passion, you will have a real impact on the lives of our young people. Taking responsibility for their learning, you will motivate them, inspire them and help them develop the skills they need for an incredible future.
Closeburn House School provides a specialist service for both Education and Residential Care. We support young people aged between 8 – 19 years who may have social and emotional mental health (SEMH) and behavioural difficulties as well as some complex needs such as Autism, Learning Difficulties, Attachment and Trauma.
We provide comprehensive support with life skills and transitions. Our school believes in education as a driver for personal development and social improvement. We value effective teaching, commitment to learning and sharing of good practice.
Closeburn House is located in a beautiful rural location in Dumfriesshire, South West Scotland yet close to principle towns and villages that offer a wealth of interest and beauty – all of which are utilised through 24 hour learning opportunities where appropriate.
Closeburn House School is pleased to announce that it has received Accredited Award from the Autism Accreditation Awards Committee.
The aim of the site is to provide enough support to unlock each child’s potential so they can live fulfilling and productive lives. We provide young people with as much freedom as possible in a safe and supervised environment. This is achievable due to the dedication and support from a range of employed professionals who are passionate, reliable, and understanding.
The role
As a dynamic and motivated Primary Teacher, you already have a passion for making a difference in the lives of children and young people. In this role, you will have every opportunity to live up to this ambition, responding to the needs of individuals with autism, learning difficulties and complex needs, helping them flourish and thrive.
You will plan and deliver engaging learning on a daily basis, developing exciting and innovative methods that stimulate interest and excitement in the classroom. Working as a Teacher with us is not your average teaching role. At Options Autism you are able to work creatively, making the most of all the extensive resources and expert support we have available.
Our class sizes are small, so you are able to create a nurturing learning environment designed around each individual’s needs, spending quality time with each pupil. You will observe, monitor and assess them, making sure their personal development and wellbeing are as important as the academic curriculum.
Who we are looking for
You will be a passionate Primary Teacher and a great communicator, as comfortable talking to children and young people with autism, learning difficulties and complex needs as you are with contributing to the schools vision and direction.
Our schools are unique environments, each one having its own special atmosphere and range of opportunities and resources. Our Teachers enjoy becoming part of their college ‘family’, exploring the potential of the building and environment and getting to know the brilliant young people in our care.
You will enjoy building these caring relationships as well as liaising with fellow professionals, whether they are colleagues in the same school or they work in the children’s previous educational establishments.
You will have excellent written English skills too, along with a passion for working in collaboration with other members of our multidisciplinary team, sharing information in both formal and informal situations.
