Salary:                 Up to £35,000 per annum dependent on experience

Contract:             Permanent, Term-Time Only

This role is to commence in January, for anyone available sooner we can provide an earlier start date.

We are looking for a Further Education Teacher/Sixth Form Teacher to commence as soon as possible. You will help deliver a range of foundation qualifications as well as a nurturing and therapeutic environment to meet a range of needs including a range of social, emotional and mental health needs and also pupils who have been diagnosed with autism or demonstrate behaviours associated with autism. You will contribute to making The Wenlock School an Outstanding provision and a leading light for our young people and their families.

About the role

The Wenlock School opened in September 2018. We are a co-educational day school catering for pupils aged 7-18 with a range of complex needs including a range of social, emotional and mental health needs and also pupils who have been diagnosed with autism or demonstrate behaviours associated with autism. You will contribute to making The Wenlock School an Outstanding provision and a leading light for our young people and their families. The uniqueness of every child is recognised and valued at The Wenlock School and our curriculum embraces the community, from which it exists, recognising and celebrating the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our growing cohort. Through our curriculum, we develop the essential knowledge, skills and understanding, which are the building blocks for later life. Our curriculum encompasses not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, but goes beyond the experiences of the classroom to ensure that our children are exposed to the richest and most varied opportunities that we can provide. Our aim is to enrich every child's school experience by creating an environment where they are encouraged to succeed and be the best they can be. We provide a therapeutic, supportive and inclusive learning environment and are committed to raising achievement and enabling pupils to recognise their potential.

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have experience of working with young people with a range of complex learning needs. You will be able to demonstrate a working understanding of how these needs impact upon learning and behaviour in the classroom. You may have specialist knowledge and experience of working with autistic spectrum disorder or children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties or you may have experience of working across both specialisms. Applications are invited from colleagues offering SEMH experience, from mainstream schools and other educational settings. Experience of delivering vocational subjects would be an advantage.

The ability to contribute to the development of our school is essential and we believe that energy, passion and a commitment to high standards are key characteristics required.  We are looking for an individual who is able to help inspire and engage the young people that we serve.  This is an opportunity for the successful candidate to develop their skills and experience in a challenging, motivating and highly rewarding environment. Previous experience of working in a SEN environment would be desirable, excellent support skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are also just as important.

Start dates for this position are subject to negotiation (subject to approved reference/DBS checks).
