Job title:    Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Location:   The Tower School, Epping

Salary:        £26,960 per annum

Hours:        37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm

Contract:    Permanent, Term Time only

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our close-knit team at The Tower School part of Options Autism and start working towards yours.

Main purpose of the job: 

To meet the needs of pupils with specific needs for learning support in relation to autism and associated conditions. To support the school curriculum through the provision of assistance to the teacher in the practical organisation of class activities and small group work. To take on a teaching timetable (up to 80%) and hold responsibility for the progress and wellbeing of these classes, with support from subject lead(s).

The successful candidate will be a committed team player with excellent organisational and technical skills. You will have the ability to effectively support learning and teaching, and to develop relationships across our school.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • To cover lessons and lead class teaching (under supervision) as and when appropriate.

  • Direct the work, where relevant, of other adults in supporting learning

  • Use their area(s) of expertise to contribute to the planning and preparation of learning activities, and to plan their role in learning activities

  • Use allocated time to devise clearly structured activities that interest and motivate learners and advance their learning

  • Plan how they will support the inclusion of pupils in the learning activities

  • To deputise for class teachers in the capacity of Form Tutor as and when required.

  • Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils, and help to safeguard pupils’ wellbeing by following the requirements of Keeping pupils Safe in Education (KCSIE) and our school’s child protection policy

  • To assist individuals and groups/whole classes of pupils in developing concepts, knowledge, skills and attitudes as defined by the Curriculum.

  • To be a role model and demonstrate the learning support involved to aid the pupils to learn as effectively as possible

  • To lead academic interventions on a 1-to-1 or small group basis for students requiring further academic support

The Tower School is an independent special day school for pupils ages 11 – 18 years who have a primary diagnosis of Autism. Our dedicated team work together to ensure successful outcomes for pupils who will often arrive at the school with a troubled view of education and life.

This opportunity is based in Epping, Essex, CM16 4BA and is located on Epping High Road within easy access of J26 of the M25 and Junction 5 of the M11.
