Full Job Description
Personal, Social & Employability Skills Tutor
This is a great opportunity to join Syon Manor College part of Options Autism as a Personal, Social & Employability Skills Tutor
Through your knowledge and passion, you will have a real impact on the lives of our young people. Taking responsibility for their learning, you will motivate them, inspire them and help them develop the skills they need for an incredible future.
Syon Manor College is a new post-16 provision for young people with autism and complex needs. The college will offer a broad curriculum of academic, vocational and life skills learning including BTECs, GCSEs, Functional Skills and ASDAN accreditations which will work towards Employability or Independence and Duke of Edinburgh qualifications.
For over 16 years Options Autism have provided care and education to children, young people and adults with autism, complex needs and learning difficulties. As part of Outcomes First Group, we are leading our sector in setting and delivering new approaches that provide measurable outcomes for those in our care.
The role
As a dynamic and motivated Personal, Social and Employability Skills Tutor you already have a passion for making a difference in the lives of children and young people. In this role, you will have every opportunity to live up to this ambition, responding to the needs of individuals with autism, learning difficulties and complex needs, helping them flourish and thrive.
You will plan and deliver engaging learning on a daily basis, developing exciting and innovative methods that stimulate interest and excitement in the classroom. Working as a Personal, Social and Employability Skills Tutor with us is not your average teaching role. At Options Autism, you are able to work creatively, making the most of all the extensive resources and expert support we have available.
Our class sizes are small, so you are able to create a nurturing learning environment designed around each individual’s needs, spending quality time with each pupil. You will observe, monitor and assess them, making sure their personal development and wellbeing are as important as the academic curriculum.
Who we are looking for
You will be a passionate tutor and a great communicator, as comfortable talking to young adults with autism, learning difficulties and complex needs as you are with contributing to the college’s vision and direction.
Our schools and colleges are unique environments, each one having its own special atmosphere and range of opportunities and resources. Our Tutors enjoy becoming part of their college ‘family’, exploring the potential of the building and environment and getting to know the brilliant young people in our care.
You will enjoy building these caring relationships as well as liaising with fellow professionals, whether they are colleagues in the same school or they work in the children’s previous educational establishments.
You will have excellent written English skills too, along with a passion for working in collaboration with other members of our multidisciplinary team, sharing information in both formal and informal situations.
