Job Title: Learning Support Assistant
Salary: £20,627.50 - £22,000 (actual salary)
Location: School For Inspiring Talents, Devon
Contract: Permanent; Term Time Only
Hours: 37 hours per week; Monday to Friday
About us
School for Inspiring Talents (SfIT) is an independent day school, supporting the most vulnerable young people in society aged 5-16; those children who do not find it easy to fit into existing educational provision. This can be for many reasons, including a range of behavioural, emotional and educational challenges, exacerbated by being on the autistic spectrum. Other difficulties such as sensory processing disorders, attachment disorders or those having faced trauma in their lives.
It is our intention that every student will achieve their full potential in both academic and personal development. As a day school, we provide an alternative to residential education which supports our students to develop independence and social skills whilst living in their home environment.

Job Summary and Duties
As a Learning Support Assistant based at our Newton Abbot / Ashburton school(s) you will be a key member of our team, enhancing the education of our students. This is a great opportunity in a growing school with excellent opportunities to build experience working amongst young people with Social, Emotional & Mental Health difficulties (SEMH).
The role will be challenging but rewarding, working in a dynamic environment where you can make a real difference. You will be expected to lead the teaching of and co-ordinate flexible, person-centred programmes of study for individuals and groups of pupils. You will be able to demonstrate a practical, hands-on approach to teaching and be prepared to go above and beyond for the young people we support.
Following a thorough induction programme, your duties will include:
- Work under the guidance of the Deputy Principal and class teacher in the planning and implementation of work programmes with individuals or groups of pupils with special needs.
- Provide general support to the class teacher in the management and organisation of pupil(s) with special needs in the classroom.
- Assist the teacher in creating and maintaining a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment.
- Promote the inclusion of all pupils, ensuring they have equal opportunities to learn and develop.
- Responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school.
Key Skills Required
- Good numeracy and literacy skills.
- Experience of working with relevant age groups within a learning environment.
- Experience of working with children with additional needs.
- Experience of general clerical/ administrative work.
- Training in relevant strategies in curriculum or learning area.
