Make a real difference to the lives of young people

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Lead Intervention Teacher to join our new specialist Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties provision - Westbourne School. If you are looking to join a dedicated team in a school that will welcome your ideas and aim to re-engage the young people we teach, come join the team based in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

About the Role

Some of our pupils join the school with reading and numeracy ages far below their expected level. This is often due to limited positive experiences of traditional classroom environments hindering their progress. We believe that with the right support all our pupils have the ability to become fluent readers and perform simple numeracy. The role of the Lead Intervention Teacher will identify, plan and coordinate intervention strategies to support student progress. You will work closely with subject leaders and the Head of Education to implement strategies to improve student literacy and numeracy in a very creative and positive setting.

As Intervention Lead, you will also have direct line management responsibility of the Intervention team, completing appraisals, monitoring quality, directing afterschool time and be responsible for the continuous professional development of the Intervention team. You will also complete the intervention timetable, effectively utilising the team to support academic progress as well supporting the SEMH needs of our students.

Our team at Westbourne are encouraged to take a creative approach, seeking ways to positively engage with and motivate pupils through lessons that promote learning and raise levels of attainment. Smaller class sizes mean you can focus on building a purposeful learning environment that meets individual educational needs of pupils.

About the School

Westbourne School will cater for children aged 11-18 and aims to achieve an occupancy of 49 pupils. We are a new specialist SEN school based in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Located in the original school building, brought right up to date with top class learning and vocational facilities.

We are looking for great people to be part of a truly unique and exciting opportunity and help shape a new school and help create a truly exceptional learning environment, to support and develop our pupils. You will have the opportunity to create and tailor the curriculum as well as access high quality CPD to help pursue your own personal goals.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for someone who is personable, resilient, organised and determined. No two days are the same at Westbourne. We want people who can work at a pace to turn ‘can’t do’ into ‘want to’ and are motivated by working with children with complex needs. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children in a calm and engaging demeanour, whilst being resilient using an innovative style of teaching motivated by your belief that every child can achieve and reach their potential.

Whilst previous experience of working in a SEN environment would be desirable, excellent support skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.

If you are looking to join a dedicated team in a school that will welcome your ideas and aim to re-engage the young people we teach, we would like to hear from you.
