Location: Falkland House School Perth, Fairmount Terrace, Perth and Falkland House School, Falkland Estate, Falkland
Hours: 38 hours/week (30 days holiday/year)

About us

Falkland House School Perth has just opened, with the initial services focused on supporting 5 young people aged between 16 to 19 years of age towards greater independent living, support with college placements and community engagement. In Autumn of this year, the main school accommodation will open, with Perth then becoming the school space for the senior phase young people, with a transition focus, and Falkland for the younger children, with a strong ASN focus.

Falkland House School is an independent residential school for boys from primary to the beginning of senior phase.  Our young people have a range of Additional Support Needs including emotional and behavioural difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Disorder.  We were the first independent school in Scotland (outside of the NAS) to receive accreditation from the National Autistic Society. We have three residential houses within the building, accommodating 24 young people.

We are part of the Options Autism and can promise you plenty of challenges, and a rich variety of opportunities to develop your career.

Options Autism provide education and care across a number of schools and residential care homes nationally. Our vision is to build incredible futures by empowering vulnerable young people in the UK to be happy and make their way in the world. Every day we improve the lives of thousands of young people, their families and communities through relentless focus on caring and learning.

The opportunity

This is a role with an exciting career and development plan, structured to ensure our staff are trained, supported, and continually developed. We want to give you the best possible toolkit, to deliver outstanding support to our children and young people and help them achieve incredible outcomes.

There will be a thorough induction, fully expensed training courses and the opportunity to expand your knowledge. You will be supported to gain any necessary qualifications, and you will gain a firm understanding of autism spectrum disorder and associated support needs, within a positive, supportive working environment. It is a great opportunity to take your career down an exciting and rewarding path.

The Role

Working across our Perth and Falkland campuses, with a greater focus on Perth, you will be expected to creatively learn about the young people, their interests and aspirations, and use this connection to establish rewarding relationships. From these relationships, you will encourage and support the young people to realise their potential by participating in opportunities, including volunteering, college courses, training and employment. You will work collaboratively with the young person’s key team, external agencies, parents and professionals. Working to establish a strong presence in the community, you will develop relationships with local employers, charities and colleges, facilitating positive outcomes for the young people and enhancing the reputation of the service.

You will strive to create a positive, engaging ethos of being socially involved and independent, promoting community engagement that is sustained and productive. You will undertake pathways assessments, participate in reviews and deliver on actions which arise from such. This will be a hands-on role wherein you, or the key worker, will accompany young people to enable them to see and learn about what their inclusion looks like. You will work closely with the young people, their key workers, key teachers and Skills Development Scotland to find pathways which help them fulfil their goals.

Who are we are looking for?

We are looking for an individual with experience in the field of transitions and a track record of securing positive outcomes for young people with additional needs. You should be creative and proactive in your approach, striving to make things work for the young people. You will be patient and resilient, and able to recognise the reward in transforming a young person’s life. You will use a calm, reliable approach that builds trust and confidence. Furthermore, you will be friendly, approachable and kind in your dealings with the children and young people.

Your health and wellbeing are important to us, so you’ll get an exceptional reward package including:

  • Up to 39 days annual leave each year (25 base entitlement + 1 One moment in time + 8 bank holidays + ability to buy up to 5 extra days)
  • Life Assurance
  • Pension scheme with options to increase your contributions
  • “Your Wellbeing Matters” – access to a wide range of first-class mental health support services and physical health checks

And a market-leading benefit offering through our Flexible Benefits Platform, Vista, enables you to choose the package that’s right for you, including:

  • A wide range of health, wellbeing, and insurance benefits
  • 100’s of discount options valid in the UK and abroad
  • Cycle to Work Schemes
  • Electric Car Purchase Scheme
  • Critical illness cover

And that’s not all, we place the outcomes of the children and vulnerable young adults in our services at the heart of everything we do, so you’ll wake every day in the knowledge that your role will have a significant positive impact on the lives of others.

We are committed to the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults. All successful applicants will be subject to fully Enhanced PVG.
