Job Title:         Student Welfare Team Member

Location:         Oak Tree School, Truro

Salary:             £21,940.66 per annum

Hours:             42.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday 8am - 4.30pm

Contract:         Permanent, Term Time Only

Must be UK based.

This is a great opportunity for a Student Welfare Team Member who wants to use their knowledge and experience to protect pupils with varied and complex needs.

Purpose of Job

  • To work under the instruction / guidance of the SLT
  • To support the welfare, development and behaviour of all pupils, enabling access to learning for pupils and ensure the application in the Basic Functioning of the school is being offered at a local level
  • To support the accurate implementation of school policies, modelling a high standard of intervention when supporting pupils
  • To adhere to and support the structures in responding to Behaviour Support Team requests
  • To function as an integral member of the Behaviour Support Team, ensuring attendance at the weekly calendar meetings

All successful applicants will be expected to complete and competently use strategies taught within Crisis Prevention Intervention training which includes the use of physical restraint in order to keep pupils and adults safe.

Essential:

  • CPI trained
  • Good levels of literacy and numeracy
  • Organisational skills
  • Good communication skills
  • A commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all pupils
  • Awareness of the causes of behavioural difficulties
  • Ability to plan and implement, under guidance effective strategies for pupils with Behavioural, Emotional, Social needs, at risk of underachieving or at risk of disaffection or exclusion
  • Able to prioritise between different demands
  • Self-motivated, and able to work in a team
  • Patient and friendly approach
  • To be able to self-evaluate and to be a reflective practitioner

About us

Oak Tree School is a specialist provision positioned near the city of Truro in Cornwall. The school provides full-time specialist co-education for up to 83 pupils and young people aged 7 to 16 who experience social, emotional, mental health, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviours. These pupils and young people often cannot cope, function or achieve within a mainstream environment. The aim is to provide a structured, nurturing approach, with pupils accessing a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum to meet their significant needs.

This opportunity is in Truro which is within commutable distance of Redruth, St Austell and surrounding areas.
