Job title: School Caretaker
Location: Hazel Cottage School, Fazakerley, Liverpool
Salary: Up to £27,000.00 per annum dependent on experience PLUS a Welcome Bonus of £3000**
Hours: 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday
Contract: Permanent, 52 weeks per year
UK applicants only. This role does not offer sponsorship.
Essential: Must hold Full UK Driving Licence and have access to own vehicle - you will receive a fuel allowance to cover the cost
As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a School Caretaker to join our close-knit team at Hazel Cottage School, part of Options Autism.
We are looking for a responsible, hands-on School Caretaker Manager to join our fantastic team at our new Options School - Hazel Cottage. As School Caretaker, you will help support our pupils and young people in their daily lives, by ensuring our sites are well maintained and equipped to meet their needs.
Your duties will include;
- Design and adhere to a schedule of maintenance within the school and outdoor areas
- Take on small improvement projects to improve school facilities
- Assembling furniture and other equipment
- Painting and other types of maintenance
- Assisting with set up for school events
- Scheduling external contractors
- Maintaining Health & Safety Records
The succesful candidate will be an efficient, practical, hand-on person. You will take pride in maintaining our school, from day-to-day repairs to completing risk assessments, carrying out security procedures, checking equipment and contributing to school development projects, and providing a safe, caring environment where every pupil can thrive.
For many of our pupils, consistency is key, and our School Caretaker should take time to make sure everything is as it should be for us to run smoothly and safely.
Previous experience in a similar setting would be great but isn’t essential as full training will be given, and the right DIY skills, motivation, and personal qualities are just as important. These roles are ideal for people with skills in maintenance, DIY and health and safety, looking for a new role that makes a real difference to pupils’ lives and futures.

Hazel Cottage is a new school meeting the needs of autistic pupils aged 4 – 11 years who may have additional needs.
We are situated in Fazakerley, Liverpool. Our school is a Grade 2 Listed building which has been refurbished and re-designed to the highest standard to meet the needs of our wonderful pupils. At Hazel Cottage everything we do is centred around the individual needs of each pupil attending our school, with the aim that every learner is able to fulfil their individual potential and thrive. Alongside a broad, exciting and memorable curriculum, we focus on developing core life skills such as communication and social interaction, sensory processing and emotional regulation. We work towards every pupil being as independent as possible when they move on to the next stage of their education.
For over 16 years Options Autism have provided care and education to pupils, young people and adults with autism, complex needs and learning difficulties. As part of Outcomes First Group, we are leading our sector in setting and delivering new approaches that provide measurable outcomes for those in our care.
