Job Title: Pastoral Support Worker
Location: 3 Dimensions School, Chard, Somerset, TA20 3AJ
Hours: 40 per week | Monday–Friday | 8:30am – 4:30pm
Salary: £26,000 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: May 2026

About the Role
As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting the learning, wellbeing and behaviour of students across the school. Working as part of a dedicated pastoral team, you will provide practical, hands‑on support to individual pupils while also helping to promote positive behaviour and a nurturing school environment. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a real difference to students who may be at risk of disengagement, helping them feel supported, understood and ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Support to Students
- Provide individual support or activities for students who may be at risk of becoming disaffected or disengaged, including during lessons, break times, lunch times and educational visits.
- Work one‑to‑one with students to develop an understanding of appropriate behaviour and positive responses both in the classroom and around the school.
- Offer clear, constructive feedback to students regarding their progress and behaviour.
- Calm and de‑escalate difficult or challenging situations involving students.
Who We Are Looking For
- Experience working in a similar pastoral or educational setting
- Evidence of continuous professional development in behaviour management.
- Awareness of current issues affecting young people’s wellbeing and engagement.
- Experience of working within a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Experience liaising with external agencies to support student needs.
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
- Strong and effective behaviour management skills.
- Confident communication skills, both written and verbal, with students and adults.
- Robust problem‑solving abilities and a solution‑focused approach.
- Ability to respond positively and professionally in challenging situations.
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and work independently.
- Ability to work calmly, efficiently and safely in a busy school environment.
- Full UK Driving Licence
