Job Title: Head of PSHE
Location: Bankside School, Worcester, WR8 0AD
Hours: 37.5 per week | Monday to Friday | 8.30am – 4.00pm
Salary: Up to £47,000 per annum (depending on experience, not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: September 2026

As our Head of PSHE, you will play a pivotal role in re‑engaging pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, delivering high‑quality work while leading the strategic development of PSHE across the school. This is a unique opportunity to shape a core subject area, inspire learners, and contribute to a highly rewarding and purpose‑driven educational community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, plan and develop the PSHE curriculum to meet statutory guidance and support personal development, safeguarding and preparation for adulthood.
- Ensure a balanced, engaging curriculum that promotes achievement, progression and positive participation.
- Organise and support teaching staff to deliver high‑quality PSHE provision and uphold strong professional standards.
- Drive continuous improvement through clear objectives, annual planning and quality assurance.
- Support strategic development of the PSHE department, including curriculum design, timetabling and pupil support.
- Work with the SENCo to ensure effective systems for tracking progress and meeting regulatory requirements.
About You
Essential
- UK QTS or equivalent
- Ability to plan and deliver learning that meets statutory PSHE requirements and engages diverse learners.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, RSE, citizenship, health education and preparation for adulthood.
- Skilled in differentiation, assessment and using data to support learning.
- Knowledge of statutory frameworks for independent special schools and SEND provision.
- Empathy, resilience and the ability to manage challenging behaviour using de‑escalation techniques.
- Degree‑level education and proven teaching competence.
Driving licence is required
Desirable
- Experience working with pupils with SEMH or ASC needs.
- Knowledge of PSHE resources, digital tools and assessment frameworks.
- Understanding of functional skills and preparation for adulthood pathways.
About Us
Bankside School is an exciting new venture near Hanley Castle, Worcester. Our new specialist school caters for students aged 11-18 years old with Autism, Complex needs and learning disabilities.
For over 19 years, Options Autism has provided specialist care and education for children, young people, and adults with autism, complex needs, and learning difficulties.
