Job Title:  Construction Instructor
Location:   The Wenlock School, Dudley, West Midlands, DY1 3SB
Hours:  37.5 per week | Monday to Friday
Rota:  Monday 8.15am – 4.30pm, Tuesday to Friday 8.15am – 3.45pm 
Salary:  Up to £30,000 per annum (depending on experience, not pro rata)
Contract:  Permanent | Term Time Only
Start:  September 2026

About the Role

As a Construction Instructor, you will deliver high-quality, engaging construction lessons that develop pupils’ vocational, personal, and social skills. You’ll help students gain practical skills for life and work, while nurturing teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving.

In addition to teaching your own curriculum, you will lead and coordinate construction-based learning across the school, integrating it into cross-curricular projects and enrichment activities. You’ll maintain the highest standards of health and safety and create an inclusive, supportive environment where all pupils can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver practical, engaging construction lessons in fully equipped workshops.
  • Teach and inspire learners in bricklaying, joinery, plumbing, and decorating.
  • Build pupils’ confidence, skills, and qualifications in line with industry standards.
  • Create a calm, structured learning environment where real-world trades come alive.
  • Mentor and motivate pupils with SEND, SEMH, or behavioural needs.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to adapt lessons and monitor student progress.
  • Lead construction initiatives across the school, from enrichment activities to cross-curricular projects.
  • Maintain health and safety standards while fostering a safe and inclusive workshop environment.

  • Passionate about teaching Construction and inspiring students with hands-on learning
  • Knowledgeable about vocational qualifications and pathways for KS4 and KS5
  • Able to plan, adapt, and deliver creative, engaging lessons in workshop environments
  • Committed to creating a personalised, nurturing, and holistic learning experience
  • Professional, collaborative, and an excellent communicator
  • Safety-conscious with the ability to manage risk assessments and ensure a secure environment
