Job Title:  Assistant Headteacher - Behaviour
Location:  Bradford Beacon School, Rooley Lane, Bradford, BD5 8LJ
Hours:      40 hours per week | Monday - Friday | 8.30am - 4.30pm
Salary:      £45,000 per annum (not pro rata) 
Contract:  Permanent | Term Time Only
Start:        January 2027

About the Role

This is more than an Assistant Headteacher role, it's a unique opportunity to help shape a brand-new specialist school from the very beginning.

At Bradford Beacon School, we're looking for an exceptional Assistant Headteacher – Behaviour to join our founding leadership team. Working alongside the Headteacher, you'll help establish a school where children with autism and additional needs feel safe, understood and inspired to achieve more than they ever thought possible.

You'll play a pivotal role in creating a calm, nurturing and ambitious culture where positive behaviour, inclusion and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. From developing whole-school behaviour systems to coaching colleagues and supporting pupils to overcome barriers, you'll have the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy from day one.

What You'll Be Doing

• • Lead and develop an outstanding whole-school behaviour strategy that promotes inclusion, consistency and high expectations.
  • Create a positive, nurturing culture where pupils with autism and additional needs feel safe, confident and ready to learn.
  • Support the Headteacher with the strategic leadership, day-to-day management and ongoing development of the school.
  • Coach, mentor and inspire colleagues, embedding outstanding behaviour practice across the school.
  • Monitor behaviour, attendance and wellbeing data, using evidence to drive school improvement and improve outcomes.
  • Work closely with families, therapists, local authorities and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide exceptional support for every pupil.
  • Champion safeguarding and pupil wellbeing, ensuring every child receives the highest standard of care and support.

What you will bring

We're looking for someone who:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a recognised teaching qualification.
• NPQSL (or an equivalent leadership qualification).
• Successful leadership experience within a SEND, specialist or inclusive education setting.
• A strong understanding of positive behaviour support, autism and inclusive practice.
• Experience leading whole-school improvement and developing effective behaviour systems.
• The ability to coach, motivate and develop colleagues to achieve consistently high standards.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with pupils, families and professionals.
• Resilience, compassion and the vision to help build an exceptional school where every child can thrive.

Bradford Beacon School, opened in September 2025, is a brand-new specialist independent school for children aged 4–11 with autism and associated complex needs. Set in a purpose-built, thoughtfully refurbished environment, the school provides a safe, nurturing, and inclusive setting where every child feels valued. Pupils follow a broad, enriched curriculum that develops communication, social, emotional, and life skills alongside academic achievement. With personalised teaching and therapeutic support from a dedicated staff and clinical team, every child’s individual needs are met.
