Job Title: Construction Instructor
Location: The Wenlock School, Dudley, West Midlands, DY1 3SB
Hours: 37.5 per week | Monday to Friday
Rota: Monday 8.15am – 4.30pm, Tuesday to Friday 8.15am – 3.45pm
Salary: Up to £30,000 per annum (depending on experience, not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: September 2026

About the Role
As a Construction Instructor, you'll inspire pupils to discover their potential through hands-on, practical learning that builds confidence, independence, and real-world skills. Delivering engaging, high-quality construction lessons, you'll help young people develop valuable vocational knowledge while strengthening essential life skills such as teamwork, resilience, communication, and problem-solving.
Beyond the workshop, you'll champion construction learning across the school, creating exciting cross-curricular projects and enrichment opportunities that bring learning to life. By maintaining the highest standards of health and safety and fostering an inclusive, supportive environment, you'll empower every pupil to succeed, celebrate their achievements, and prepare for their next steps in education, employment, and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver inspiring, hands-on construction lessons in fully equipped workshops, bringing learning to life through practical experience.
- Teach and develop skills across a range of trades, including bricklaying, joinery, plumbing, and decorating, helping pupils discover their strengths and passions.
- Equip learners with industry-relevant knowledge, practical skills, and recognised qualifications that prepare them for future employment or further training.
- Create a positive, structured workshop environment where pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated to achieve their best.
- Build trusted relationships with young people with SEND, SEMH, and additional needs, encouraging confidence, resilience, and independence.
- Adapt teaching to meet individual needs, working closely with colleagues and multidisciplinary teams to maximise pupil progress.
- Champion construction across the school by leading enrichment activities, real-world projects, and cross-curricular learning opportunities that inspire creativity and teamwork.
- Maintain exceptional standards of health, safety, and workshop practice, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and professional learning environment for every pupil.

- Passionate about teaching Construction and inspiring students with hands-on learning
- Knowledgeable about vocational qualifications and pathways for KS4 and KS5
- Able to plan, adapt, and deliver creative, engaging lessons in workshop environments
- Committed to creating a personalised, nurturing, and holistic learning experience
- Professional, collaborative, and an excellent communicator
- Safety-conscious with the ability to manage risk assessments and ensure a secure environment
