About the Role

Are you passionate about Hair, Barbering and Beauty and ready to inspire the next generation? At Avonside School, we’re looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Hair & Beauty Instructor to join our specialist team and bring your industry experience to life in the classroom.

This is an opportunity to do more than teach practical skills. You’ll inspire young people with SEMH and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to discover their strengths, explore their creativity and develop valuable vocational skills that can open doors to their future.

Working alongside our dedicated multidisciplinary team, you’ll play a key role in helping every young person recognise what they can achieve. You’ll be a positive role model, encouraging pupils to take pride in their progress, overcome challenges and develop the confidence to take their next steps towards employment and independent living. If you’re ready to turn your passion for Hair & Beauty into a career where your skills can genuinely change lives, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Hair, Barbering and Beauty lessons that combine practical and theory-based learning.
  • Deliver high-quality vocational learning that meets qualification standards and supports individual learner needs.
  • Prepare creative resources and practical activities that inspire confidence and encourage participation.
  • Support pupils to develop industry skills, employability, independence and personal confidence.
  • Assess, monitor and record learner progress, providing constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Deliver targeted one-to-one and small-group interventions to help pupils achieve their individual goals.
  • Help develop and enhance the Hair & Beauty curriculum across the school.
  • Assist in coordinating the Hair & Beauty programme and support learners in accessing appropriate off-site vocational opportunities where appropriate.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils while promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with education, therapy and pastoral teams to achieve the very best outcomes for every pupil.
  • Contribute to pupil reviews, progress reports, curriculum planning and wider school improvement.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive and professional learning environment, ensuring safeguarding and wellbeing remain at the heart of everything you do.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about Hair, Barbering and Beauty and eager to inspire young people.
  • Qualified or experienced within the Hair & Beauty industry, with the confidence to deliver practical vocational learning.
  • Experienced in teaching, training, coaching or mentoring young people (desirable but not essential).
  • Patient, compassionate and resilient, with a genuine commitment to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
  • Creative and able to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
  • A confident communicator who builds positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
  • Organised and able to effectively monitor learner progress and maintain accurate records.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Motivated to continue developing professionally and contribute to the wider life of the school.
