Job Title: Deputy Headteacher - Curriculum
Location: Belmont Primary School, Rossendale, BB4 7LJ
Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday–Friday
Salary: £57,750.00 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: January 2026 (or earlier if possible)

Belmont School is looking for an ambitious and inspirational Deputy Headteacher, Curriculum to join our Senior Leadership Team and take strategic responsibility for curriculum, teaching, learning, assessment and pupil progress across Years 1 to 13.
This is an opportunity to have real influence. You’ll work alongside the Headteacher to ensure our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and personalised for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). From developing curriculum pathways and raising teaching standards to strengthening assessment and developing talented colleagues, your leadership will directly influence the experience and outcomes of our pupils.
We’re looking for a leader who combines strategic thinking with visible leadership, someone who can turn ambition into excellent classroom practice and inspire colleagues to continually improve.
What you'll be doing
- Lead the school’s curriculum strategy, ensuring provision is ambitious, inclusive, broad and responsive to the individual needs of pupils with SEMH
- Drive the quality of teaching and learning across the school, using observations, learning walks, work scrutiny and professional dialogue to promote consistently high standards
- Lead whole school assessment, progress tracking and data analysis, ensuring pupils who require additional support are identified and effective interventions are put in place
- Develop, coach and inspire teachers, Subject Leaders and support colleagues, creating a culture of high expectations, professional development and continuous improvement
- Lead curriculum planning and organisation, including appropriate pathways, timetabling, staffing and effective use of resources
- Line manage Subject Leaders, the Assistant Head Inclusion and Assistant Head Outcomes, providing appropriate challenge, guidance and support
- Lead the development of Teaching Assistant standards, ensuring support colleagues are effectively deployed and equipped to contribute to pupil progress
- Oversee the development of PSHE and RSE provision alongside relevant coordinators, ensuring it supports pupils academically, socially and personally
- Take responsibility for the effective administration of internal and external examinations from the 2026 to 2027 academic year, ensuring regulatory requirements are met
- Work alongside the Headteacher and wider Senior Leadership Team on school improvement, self evaluation, financial planning and strategic priorities
What We're Looking For
You’ll be an experienced and credible education leader who understands that an exceptional curriculum is about far more than subjects and timetables. It should create opportunity, raise aspiration and give every pupil the chance to succeed.
You’ll bring:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Significant teaching experience alongside senior leadership experience within an SLT
- Strong knowledge and experience of curriculum design, development and implementation
- A successful track record of improving teaching and learning
- Experience using assessment, progress data and evidence to drive improvement and improve pupil outcomes
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, challenge, motivate and develop others
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage complex whole school priorities
- Confidence working strategically while remaining visible and connected to classroom practice
- A genuine commitment to improving opportunities and outcomes for pupils with SEMH needs
- Experience within a specialist or alternative provision setting would be advantageous, as would experience of whole school timetabling, PSHE and RSE leadership.
- A leadership qualification such as NPQSL, NPQH or equivalent would also be desirable.

Belmont School is an independent specialist school providing education for boys aged 5–18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated complex behaviours. The school operates as one community across two phases: a Primary Phase in Rossendale for pupils aged 5–11 and a Secondary Phase in Rawtenstall for pupils aged 11–18.
