About the Role

One Pupil. Consistent Support. A Difference You Can See Every Day. At Crookhey Hall, we’re looking for a caring and resilient 1 to 1 Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated, individual support to a pupil throughout their school day.

The heart of this role is consistency and connection. You’ll get to know the pupil as an individual, understanding how they communicate, what helps them engage with learning and what support they need when situations become challenging. By building trust and providing a calm, reliable presence, you’ll help them develop confidence, independence and a more positive experience of education.

Your support will extend beyond lessons. You could be helping the pupil access classroom learning, supporting emotional regulation, encouraging social interaction or getting involved in practical activities, recreation and educational visits.

Your 1 to 1 Support

Your primary focus will be providing individual support to an identified pupil, helping them participate in school life and work towards their personal and educational goals.

You’ll:

  • Provide consistent 1 to 1 support throughout the school day
  • Help the pupil access learning and adapt activities around their individual needs
  • Build a positive and trusting professional relationship that helps them feel safe, understood and ready to learn
  • Recognise individual triggers, strengths and communication needs and adapt your approach accordingly
  • Provide calm and consistent support during challenging moments
  • Encourage confidence, independence, communication and life skills
  • Support emotional wellbeing, positive behaviour and social development
  • Work closely with teachers and other professionals to follow personalised learning and support plans
  • Observe progress and share relevant information with the wider team
  • Support participation in activities, recreation, educational visits and learning beyond the classroom

Who We’re Looking For

The right relationship can make a remarkable difference.

You don’t need previous experience in a specialist school. You may already work in education, or your experience could come from care, support work, youth work, coaching, residential care or another people focused role.

What matters is your ability to be patient, reliable and consistent. This pupil needs someone who can take the time to understand them, celebrate their progress and remain calm when things do not go to plan.

You’ll need:

  • GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent
  • A Full UK Driving Licence
  • A caring, patient and positive approach
  • The ability to build an appropriate and trusting relationship with a young person
  • Resilience and the confidence to remain calm and consistent during challenging situations
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliability, professionalism and an understanding of confidentiality
  • The flexibility to adapt your approach around an individual pupil’s needs
  • A genuine commitment to helping a young person achieve their potential
