About the Role

Love Teaching but Looking for More Variety? If you’re confident leading a classroom, enjoy working with different pupils and thrive on variety, this could be a fantastic opportunity to use your teaching skills in a different way.

We’re looking for a Cover Supervisor to work across both of our Fieldstone School sites in Newton Abbot and Ashburton. You’ll step in when teaching colleagues are absent, ensuring pupils continue to receive consistent, engaging and purposeful learning throughout the school day.

Rather than being based with one class, you’ll work across different groups, subjects and learning activities, including vocational programmes. You’ll get to know pupils across both sites and become a trusted and valuable part of the wider Fieldstone team.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead engaging, pre planned lessons in the absence of teaching colleagues, ensuring learning continues effectively
  • Work flexibly across our Newton Abbot and Ashburton sites, supporting pupils and colleagues where you are needed most
  • Support and supervise vocational learning programmes, helping pupils remain engaged and motivated
  • Provide whole class, small group and individual support, adapting your approach to different pupils and situations
  • Deliver targeted interventions and catch up activities to help pupils make progress and build confidence
  • Create a calm, positive and structured learning environment, using consistent and supportive approaches
  • Work closely with teachers, leaders and support colleagues to provide continuity for pupils across both sites
  • Bring initiative, flexibility and confidence to a role where no two days are quite the same

What You'll Bring

We’re looking for someone who is comfortable taking the lead but understands that successful learning starts with strong relationships.

You’ll need:

  • QTS/PGCE
  • A confident and engaging classroom presence
  • The ability to lead learning and adapt quickly when working with different classes and pupils
  • Excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach when situations become challenging
  • An understanding of, or willingness to embrace, trauma informed and relationship based practice
  • A genuine belief that young people can succeed when they receive the right support and encouragement
  • A full UK driving licence, as you’ll be working across both Fieldstone School sites
  • Experience within a SEND or SEMH setting is desirable.

About Us

We are committed to ensuring that every student reaches their full potential academically and personally. As a day school, we provide an alternative to residential education, helping students develop independence, social skills, and resilience while remaining in their home environment.

Fieldstone School operates in line with Devon County Council’s Section 175 safeguarding requirements, demonstrating our commitment to the safety and welfare of all students.
