Job Title: Cover Supervisor/Higher Level Teaching Assistant
Location: Penny Tree School, Birmingham, B30 3ES
Hours: 37.5 per week | Monday to Friday
Salary: £26,250.00 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: April 2026

About the Role
This combined role supports high‑quality teaching and learning across the school by delivering pre‑planned lessons, assisting with classroom management, and providing targeted support to pupils. The Cover Supervisor/HLTA helps ensure a purposeful learning environment, contributes to planning and assessment, and plays an active part in maintaining the school’s ethos, values and high standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Cover lessons when a teacher is unavailable, delivering sessions in line with the Class Teacher’s planning.
- Deliver pre‑planned lessons and cover classes across Key Stages 3 & 4 in the absence of teachers.
- Support teachers in preparing resources, planning activities, and delivering a stimulating and inclusive curriculum.
- Maintain a positive, well‑managed classroom environment using behaviour strategies aligned with school policy.
- Provide support to pupils individually, in small groups or whole‑class settings, promoting independent learning.
- Assist students struggling with set work and ensure all pupils stay focused on meeting lesson objectives.
- Contribute to the tracking and monitoring of pupil progress, providing verbal and written feedback to staff.
- Deliver literacy and numeracy interventions and support whole‑school programmes to raise attainment.
- Prepare learning spaces, manage resources effectively and ensure equipment is used and stored safely.
- Promote pupils’ confidence, self‑esteem and positive behaviour, recognising and rewarding achievement.
- Support with the creation and updating of pupil documentation, including IEPs, risk assessments and behaviour profiles.
- Contribute to the wider organisation of the school, upholding its aims, values and equal opportunity policies.
