Job Title: SEN Maths Lead
Location: Penny Tree School, Birmingham, B30 3ES
Hours: 37.5 per week | Monday–Friday | 8:30am – 4:30pm
Salary: £45,000 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: April 2026

About the Role

We’re looking for a passionate and driven SEN Maths Lead to take ownership of Mathematics across the school, shaping a curriculum that is engaging, accessible and impactful for all learners.
As SEN Maths Lead, you will provide both strategic direction and hands-on leadership for Mathematics, ensuring high-quality teaching and strong outcomes for pupils with additional needs. Working closely with senior leaders and colleagues, you’ll drive improvement, support staff development and ensure the Maths curriculum meets the diverse needs of all learners.
You’ll play a key role in creating a culture of high expectations, confidence and achievement across the school.
- Leading and overseeing Mathematics teaching and learning across the school
- Monitoring pupil progress and implementing targeted interventions to raise attainment
- Designing and developing an engaging, inclusive Maths curriculum
- Supporting and coaching colleagues to deliver high-quality teaching
- Promoting high standards, ambition and a positive attitude towards Maths
- Contributing to school improvement planning, evaluation and review
- Developing and implementing subject action plans aligned to whole-school priorities
This role is ideal for a Maths specialist with a passion for curriculum leadership, improving outcomes, and inspiring both pupils and colleagues.
About You
You are an ambitious and inspiring Maths specialist who is passionate about making a difference.
You will have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Mathematics (or related subject)
- Experience teaching Maths across multiple key stages
- Strong leadership, communication and collaboration skills
- A commitment to inclusive education and supporting pupils with SEN
- The drive to innovate, improve outcomes and raise standards

Our new Options Autism school – Penny Tree – will have capacity for 60 pupils and is expected to open in the near future.
