Job Title: 1:1 Pupil Support Worker/ Teaching Assistant
Location: Belmont Secondary School, Rawtenstall, BB4 6RX
Hours: 37.5 per week | Monday–Friday
Salary: £22,160.62 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Fixed Term contract - 12 months | Term Time Only
Start: July 2026

About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and dedicated 1:1 Pupil Support Worker (PSW) to join our supportive school community. This rewarding role involves providing tailored support to an identified student, helping them access learning, regulate emotions, build confidence and achieve their full potential both academically and socially.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, attachment difficulties and trauma-related behaviours within a nurturing educational environment.
What you will be doing
- Provide consistent 1:1 support to an identified student, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and engagement in learning
- Build positive therapeutic relationships that support emotional regulation and personal development
- Support students with SEMH needs, attachment difficulties and trauma-informed strategies
- Encourage positive behaviour, social interaction, independence and appropriate learning skills
- Assist teachers in delivering personalised educational and nurturing programmes
- Monitor and record student progress, rewards and support plans including EHCPs and IEPs
- Liaise positively with parents, carers and external agencies where required
- Supervise and support students during breaktimes, lunchtimes, educational visits and wider school activities
What We’re Looking For
- Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths
- Experience supporting children or young people with additional emotional or behavioural needs
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Calm, patient and resilient approach when managing challenging situations
- Ability to work proactively, flexibly and as part of a team
- Good standard of English and Maths with strong organisational skills

Belmont Secondary School is an independent specialist school in Rawtenstall for boys aged 11–18 with SEMH needs, easily commutable from Bury, Burnley and surrounding areas.
