Job Title: Head of Maths (Secondary)
Location: Glebedale School, Stoke-on-Trent, ST4 3AY
Hours: 37.5 per week | Monday – Friday | Monday 8am - 4pm & Tuesday to Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm
Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum (depending on experience, not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: September 2026

As Head of Maths, you will lead the strategic development and delivery of Mathematics across the school, ensuring pupils receive a high-quality, engaging and inclusive education that builds confidence, resilience and achievement.
You'll combine outstanding classroom practice with curriculum leadership, working closely with senior leaders and colleagues to raise standards, develop innovative approaches and create meaningful learning experiences for every pupil.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and developing an engaging Maths curriculum aligned with national standards
- Delivering inspiring Maths lessons that motivate and challenge learners
- Driving achievement, progress and positive outcomes across all key stages
- Supporting and developing colleagues to ensure consistently high-quality Maths provision
- Using assessment data to identify strengths, gaps and intervention opportunities
- Working closely with senior leaders and the SENCo to support pupil success
- Overseeing accredited Maths pathways including Functional Skills, Entry Level and GCSE
- Contributing to whole-school improvement and promoting a culture of high expectations
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- UK QTS or equivalent
- Strong subject knowledge across number, algebra, geometry, statistics and problem‑solving.
- Ability to plan and deliver accredited Maths pathways (Functional Skills, GCSE, Entry Level).
- Skilled in engaging learners through varied and differentiated teaching methods.
- Understanding of assessment and how to use it to support progress.
- Awareness of statutory requirements for pupils with additional needs.
- Empathy, resilience and the ability to manage challenging behaviour.
- Confident in analysing data for regulatory and accreditation purposes.
- Degree‑level education and evidence of teaching competence.

Glebedale School is a special needs school which provides provision for ages 7 years and upwards. We provide a nurturing and welcoming environment to SEMH pupils, and our curriculum has a keen focus on therapy, education and personal development. Our school aims to help pupils grow academically, socially and emotionally to enable them to become capable future citizens.
We provide education to 40 pupils from the Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire and Cheshire areas. At our last Ofsted in July 2025, we were rated “Good”.
