About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Pastoral Assistant to help create a positive, caring and inclusive environment where every child and young person is valued, respected and supported to thrive.
In this vital role, you will guide staff in effective support strategies, provide direct care for young people in crisis, and contribute to long‑term planning for their holistic development. Working closely with the Head of Behaviour and Welfare, you will help implement approaches that ensure every learner can access continuous, meaningful learning.
What you’ll be doing:
- Champion an inclusive, respectful and safeguarding‑focused environment, challenging any practice that does not reflect the school’s ethos.
- Support teachers with classroom management, and help develop and implement individual educational and behavioural programmes.
- Lead, deploy and supervise Pastoral Intervention Assistants, ensuring safe staffing levels and clear communication across the pastoral and teaching teams.
- Provide structured staff supervision, contribute to performance management, and identify training needs to promote high‑quality pastoral care.
- Oversee daily pastoral systems including rotas, rewards, behaviour tracking, record‑keeping and end‑of‑day briefings.
- Deliver training on pupil needs and behaviour trends, and support individual young people throughout the school day, including during times of crisis.
- Run community projects and on‑site work experience, contribute to policy development, and take an active role in school meetings.
- Manage logging systems, monitor RPI statistics, and provide reports for annual reviews and LAC meetings in line with school procedures.
Who we’re looking for:
- A strong sense of accountability, keeping the Head of Education and Headteacher fully informed about all pastoral and day‑to‑day care matters.
- Personal responsibility for your own professional development, ensuring you stay current with best practice and emerging issues in pastoral care.
- High professional standards, including confidentiality, sound judgement and consistent modelling of the school’s values.
- A proactive, reflective approach that uses feedback, data and supervision to improve practice and strengthen support for young people.
