Location:  Belmont Primary School, Rossendale, BB4 7LJ
Hours:      37.5 hours per week | Monday–Friday 
Salary:      £22,160.62 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract:  Permanent | Term Time Only
Start:        October 2026

About the Role

At Belmont Primary School, we’re looking for a compassionate and resilient Pastoral Support Worker to provide that consistency for pupils who may be experiencing social, emotional or behavioural barriers to learning.

You’ll build strong relationships with pupils, helping them understand and regulate their emotions, rebuild confidence and develop strategies that allow them to successfully re engage with school and learning. Sometimes that might mean providing a calm space during a difficult moment. Other times it could be helping a pupil return to class, improving attendance or simply recognising progress that might seem small to others but is significant to that child.

Working alongside our Pastoral Manager, teachers, support colleagues, families and external professionals, you’ll become an important part of the team around each pupil.

What you'll be doing

• Provide individual pastoral, behavioural and mentoring support, building trusting relationships with pupils who need additional help
• Support pupils during periods of distress or dysregulation, helping them develop strategies to understand and manage their emotions and behaviour
• Help pupils overcome barriers, rebuild confidence and successfully re engage with learning and classroom life
• Contribute to individual education, behaviour, support and mentoring plans, monitoring progress and celebrating achievement
• Work closely with teaching and pastoral colleagues to provide consistent approaches and personalised support
• Help improve attendance, engagement and successful integration into school, identifying where additional support may be needed
• Build constructive relationships with parents and carers and work alongside external professionals to achieve positive outcomes
• Support pupils throughout the wider school day, including learning activities, breaktimes, lunchtimes, educational visits and other activities, while always promoting their welfare and safeguarding

What We're Looking For

We’re looking for someone who wants to understand the child behind the behaviour.

You’ll be someone who:

• Is caring, patient and able to build positive relationships with children
• Can remain calm, consistent and reassuring when a pupil is having a difficult day
• Understands that behaviour can communicate an unmet need and is willing to look beyond what is happening in the moment
• Can provide clear boundaries while maintaining a nurturing and supportive approach
• Is resilient, approachable and able to encourage pupils who may find school challenging
• Communicates confidently with pupils, colleagues, families and other professionals
• Works well as part of a team and understands the importance of consistency
• Is committed to safeguarding, inclusion and giving every pupil the opportunity to succeed
• Full UK Driving Licence required

Experience within education, pastoral support, SEND, behaviour support, youth work, family support, care or another child focused environment would be valuable.

Belmont School is an independent specialist school providing education for boys aged 5–18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated complex behaviours. The school operates as one community across two phases: a Primary Phase in Rossendale for pupils aged 5–11 and a Secondary Phase in Rawtenstall for pupils aged 11–18.
